Blast off Sunday to Cub Scout camp

Are you ready to have a great time at camp on Sunday?  It's going to be a great day!

Cub Camp Blast Off / Fall Festival
Sunday, October 26
 (arrive early)

Kiwanis Scout Camp  (facilities map)
15987 St Croix Trail, Marine on St Croix, MN 55047  (driving directions)

8:30am Check in begins (turn in your forms)
9:00am Opening Ceremony & programs begin
9:10am Sign up for rocket launch time
12:00pm Program areas shut down & dismissal

Each activity station's schedule is open format. This allows more freedom for participants to try what they would like and get a feel for what camp is all about. This will be good for the differing age groups and experience levels to really hand craft their experience at camp. The only scheduled activity will be the rocket launches which will happen all day.

Activities include:

  • Archery
  • Craft
  • Field Games
  • Carnival Games
  • Fall Snack
  • BB Guns
  • Rocket Launch (see details below)

If you can't go

If for any reason you can't go. Please inform the Outings Chair ASAP.  There are a few people on the wait list.  We'll give them your spots and refund any money you've paid.

Bring your forms with you. Each person needs their own.

You must bring your own forms to camp.

Each person needs their own set of forms.

Camp requires that each person (not just Scouts) must present their own paper copy of an Annual Health & Medical Record and a Shooting Sports Waiver.  The pack's leaders will not bring any forms to camp.  If you forget your own forms at home, you will waste time at camp filing them out.

Links to the required forms:

Helpful hint: The AH&MR is a fillable PDF.  Complete the form using your computer and save it.  You'll need this form again for later activities and camps. Saving it or printing extra copies will save the hassle of doing it again.  Also, keep a few copies of the Shooting Sports Waivers while you're at it.

Rocket Launch details

Build your rocket at home: If your son is a new Scout and was given a rocket kit on Sept. 18, please ensure your rocket is fully assembled (with the glue dry) before you get to camp. If you build it at camp, there won't likely be enough time for glue to dry properly, and rocket assembly takes time. Scouts won’t get a good opportunity to experience the rest of camp if they are building a rocket for most of the morning. They will have some alternative methods, but building the rocket before camp is the best practice.

Start your countdown:
Sign up for your launch time after opening ceremony.

Name your spacecraft: It's a good idea to personalize your rocket or write your son's name on it as there will be many others there that will look identical.

Prepare to lose it:  For many kids, launching model rockets into tall trees is a rite of passage.  Prepare your son for the possibility that it will be damaged, lost or innacessable.

The Outings Chair will provide one engine for each new scout's rocket. To receive yours, arrive early (8:15am) or make prior arrangements. Additional engines will be available at camp for $1.25 per engine.

Launches are weather (wind & rain) dependant.

What to Wear and Bring Along

Scouts should wear their "Class A" uniforms. It's OK if new scouts don't have uniforms yet. Dress in layers- appropriately for the weather with sturdy, closed toe footgear. Scouts can wear base-layer clothing under their uniforms. This is a mostly outdoor expereince and will continue rain or shine. Be prepared.

Lunch will not be provided.  Bring a filled water bottle, a small snack (if you wish) and a small daypack to carry your personal items.

Trading Post

Kiwanis' Trading Post sells a variety of camp-related merchandise, patches, hats, books, t-shirts, souvenirs, etc. They also sell a wide variety of candy, soda, ice cream.
