March Pack Update - Pinewood, Family Camp, University of Scouting

posted Mar 22, 2012, 6:56 AM by Cub Scout Pack 151

Happy Spring Break, Pack Parents!  I hope you are all enjoying the lull in Scouting activities.  We just have a couple of items to cover, so this should be (relatively) quick.

District Pinewood Derby Tuning Day – This Saturday morning, beginning at 10am, we will be holding a Track Tuning day at the Legion.  All are welcome, but the day is designed to help our District Derby representatives test and fine tune their cars for the District races next month.  For those not participating this year, it will be a good resource for ideas and tips for building next year’s car.  We are also happy to teach more parents about the assembly and running of the Pack’s Pinewood Track.  We hope to see you on Saturday.

Our Family Camping Weekend is officially ON for May 4-6 at Camp Kiwanis near Marine on the St. Croix.  We have 4 Cabins and 3 Camping Sites reserved along with a central Meeting space that will also become our Cooking Site.  The close proximity of the camp allows us to offer a “Day Camp” option for those who want to take part, but aren’t interested in the overnight camping.  You can plan to arrive Saturday morning, May 5th around 9am and join your Den’s activities, including Lunch, Dinner and even the Campfire Program, before heading home that night.  We are estimating the cost of the Day Camp to be $15 per participant and siblings are welcome to join.  If you are interested, please let your Den Leaders know.

There are currently 63 Scouts and Family members signed up to stay overnight.  If you still wish to join us, please let Denise know how many and we will try to accommodate you.   Until then, we encourage the Dens to discuss what activities they want to plan for, as well as prepare a Skit or Skits to perform during the Campfire.

Looking ahead to April, the 14th is the District Pinewood Derby at Marinatha Church in Forest Lake.  Pack 151 is running the registration and Races for the day. We are looking for some volunteers to help setup on Friday night around 6pm and then on race day helping to keep everything moving.  We have a planning Committee meeting this Monday night, the 26th at 7pm in the Dunn Brothers next to Festival Foods.  Please join us if you can.  Of course, everyone is welcome to attend Race day and cheer on our Pack’s representatives.

On April 21st, there is a University of Scouting in Lakeville for Pack Leaders and interested Parents.  We are encouraging all Leaders to attend to get training on their upcoming positions as well as attend some fun classes.  More information can be found on the Council website  The Pack reimburses your registration fees, so the only cost is Gas. Ask any leader if you have any questions.

Also in April, on the 28th our Pack Activity will be Scouting for Food.  We’ll need some help distributing Flyers around town in the middle of the Month and then on the morning of the 28th, we’ll head out with the Boy Scouts and collect Food and money for the local Foodshelf.  We’ll conclude with Pizza in Lion’s Park and some games.  More details to follow.

As always, check out the Pack’s website and Facebook page.  Enjoy your week!
