January Pack Update

posted Jan 5, 2012, 5:08 AM by Cub Scout Pack 151

Happy New Year Pack 151 Parents!  I hope your holidays were safe and happy.  We wanted to update you on upcoming planning meetings and Pack events.

  • The Many Waters District hosts their monthly Roundtable meeting on Thursday, January 5th at 7:30PM in Forest Lake.  If you are currently a Leader in our Pack or are interested in taking on some Den or Pack responsibilities, these meetings are great to get some ideas and learn about all of the resources the BSA provides to Pack Leadership. Pack 151 is always well represented at the meetings, so you won't be alone.  Reply to this email if you are interested in attending and we will provide the location details and/or arrange a carpool.
  • A Pinewood Derby Build Day will be hosted in the Dickson's family garage this Sunday, January 8th from Noon to 6pm for anyone interested.  Tools and advisers will be available to help make your major cuts in a safe, supervised environment. The Dickson's have a lot of experience in building award winning Derby Cars and they are willing to share that knowledge.  Please email bdjldickson@comcast.net to RSVP and let them know what time you plan to come that day.
  • A Pack Pinewood Derby Planning meeting will be held on Monday, January 9th at 6PM-10PM at the Hugo Legion Hall.  We are calling for any and all able adults to help us that evening to mock up the layout for our derby and construct the upgraded Track for testing.  You are welcome to come by whenever you are able and encouraged to bring your drills, levels and other tools if you have them. We'll order Pizza from our Pack's favorite local joint (Savoy) around 6pm and get to work.  Many of us are running the Derby for the first time and want to make sure it runs smoothly for everyone's benefit.  Please help us out if you can.
  • The Webelos Crossover Ceremony will be held on January 17th at 6:30PM in the Oneka Elementary Cafeteria.  All Pack Scouts, Parents and Siblings are welcome and encouraged to attend.  The Webelo II Scouts will be welcomed into the Boy Scout Troop that night in a short, but time-honored Crossover Ceremony and we will serve cake shortly after.  Show your Scout what they are working towards and help us send off our Cub Scout graduates as they continue their Scouting Journey. Class A uniforms are requested for all Scouts.
  • Our January Pack Gathering of Sledding at Lakewood Pack in WBL is still scheduled for Saturday, January 21st.  We just need winter to decide to stick around and give us some snow that will stay on the ground.  At any rate, plan to arrive at 1:30 with your sleds and a cup for Hot Cocoa that the Pack will provide.  No Uniforms are necessary and all Parents and Siblings are welcome to join.
  • Our January Pack Committee Meeting is Monday, January 23rd at 7PM in the Hugo City Hall.  We will be making final plans for the Pack Pinewood Derby as well as planning the Pack Blue & Gold Dinner coming up in March.  Please attend to help us make decisions and get organized if you are able.
  • District Pinewood Derby Planning meeting will be held on Monday, January 30th at 7pm at Dunn Bros. in Hugo.  Our Pack parents are running the race on behalf of the District in April as a fund raiser for our Pack.  Please help us get organized in running the derby for over 300 Scouts and their families and coach the Lino Lakes Pack in running a successful concession stand so we can maximize our shared profits.
  • The Pack 151 Pinewood Derby will be held on Saturday, February 4th from 9am to 3pm (Setup to Cleanup) at the Hugo Legion Hall.  We will need volunteers to help setup and test the track on Friday evening, Feb. 3rd as well as helping out the day of the Derby to check in cars and keep them organized and moving throughout the day and then to clean up after.  Each Rack has a designated check-in time below.  Please have Scouts arrive in your Class A uniform for inspection when you check in that day.  Any Scout not in Uniform will be allowed to race, but will not be eligible for any awards, including advancing to the District Derby.
    • Webelos arrive at 10am
    • Bears arrive at 10:30am
    • Wolves arrive at 11am
    • Tigers arrive at 11:30am
    • Lions arrive at Noon
  • Finally, for those who are signed up, remember that Polar Cubs is February 25th from 8:15 to 3:30 at Philippo Scout Camp near Cannon Falls.

We hope to see you at some of our planning events and look forward to seeing your family at the Scout events coming up.

Thanks

Pack 151 Committee
